• The Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1

The objective of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and bear those pieces off the game board quicker than your competitor who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a round in Backgammon requires both tactics and fortune. How far you can move your pieces is up to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and just how you shift your chips are determined by your overall playing plans. Enthusiasts use different strategies in the differing parts of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.

    The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game plan is to entice all your checkers into your inside board and pull them off as fast as you could. This plan concentrates on the speed of shifting your chips with little or no efforts to hit or block your opponent’s checkers. The best scenario to use this strategy is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers a lot faster than the opponent does: when 1) you have less checkers on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your competitor’s pieces; or 3) the opposing player doesn’t employ the hitting or blocking technique.

    The Blocking Game Plan

The primary aim of the blocking tactic, by the name, is to block your competitor’s chips, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. As soon as you’ve created the barrier for the opponent’s movement with a few pieces, you can move your other checkers rapidly off the game board. The player will need to also have a good plan when to back off and move the pieces that you employed for the blockade. The game becomes interesting when your competitor uses the same blocking strategy.
