• Backgammon – 3 Main Techniques

In very simple terms, there are 3 fundamental tactics employed. You need to be agile enough to switch techniques quickly as the action of the game unfolds.

    The Blockade

This is composed of assembling a 6-deep wall of checkers, or at a minimum as thick as you might manage, to lock in the competitor’s pieces that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate procedure at the start of the match. You can build the wall anyplace between your eleven-point and your 2-point and then shuffle it into your home board as the game continues.

    The Blitz

This is composed of locking your home board as quickly as as you can while keeping your opponent on the bar. e.g., if your competitor rolls an early 2 and shifts one piece from your one-point to your 3-point and you then toss a 5-5, you are able to play six/one six/one 8/3 eight/three. Your opponent is now in serious difficulty considering that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inside board!

    The Backgame

This plan is where you have two or more checkers in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor spot is a point occupied by at a minimum 2 of your pieces.) It must be played when you are extremely behind as it much improves your chances. The best locations for anchors are towards your opponent’s smaller points and also on abutting points or with one point separating them. Timing is critical for a powerful backgame: at the end of the day, there’s no point having 2 nice anchor spots and a solid wall in your own home board if you are then forced to dismantle this right away, while your challenger is moving their pieces home, because you do not have other spare checkers to shift! In this case, it is better to have pieces on the bar so that you are able to maintain your position up until your opponent provides you a chance to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to try and get your opposer to hit them in this case!
